Hosei University, founded in 1880 as the Tokyo School of Law, is an elite private university in Tokyo, Japan. Across three campuses, there are 15 faculties and 38 departments offering a top-class curriculum and learning environment for students to become future world leaders in their fields.

In all four English-based degrees, the courses are conducted entirely in English. Students without Japanese proficiency can get a degree in Japan.
All three Hosei campuses Ichigaya, Koganei, and Tama are located in Tokyo. The faculty and programs offering English-based degrees are located at the Ichigaya campus. IGESS students study the first three semesters at Ichigaya and, from the fifth semester, move to the Tama campus.
Ichigaya is north of the Imperial Palace, which is right in the middle of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Ichigaya is a nice and quiet urban district with very easy access to business districts near Tokyo station, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Shibuya, and Akihabara.

Through the GIS program students can choose to specialize in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management Studies, and explore subjects like Sociology, Accounting, Literature, Law, Psychology, Marketing, and Manga Studies. With small classes and a diverse learning environment, students grow intellectually and develop practical problem-solving skills. Graduates of the GIS program will leave the department fully prepared to take on challenging global and local careers in a variety of fields.
To be accepted to the HOSEI GIS program you must:
1. Have completed or scheduled to complete a standard 12-year education (high school diploma or equivalent) at a school accredited by an international accreditation organization (WASC, CIS, ACSI, NEASC, or Cognia).
2. Meet ONE of the following requirements:
- Enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program (including Japanese DP) and
obtained, or expect to obtain the diploma.
- Have or expect to obtain, (a) 3 GCE Advanced Levels or (b) 2 GCE Advanced Levels and 2 GCE
Advanced Subsidiary Levels (total of 4 subjects)
- Fulfilled, or expect to fulfill, university admission requirements (UE: University Entrance),
including NCEA (National Certificate of Education Achievement) Level 3
- Passed, or expect to pass, the Baccalauréat
- Passed, or expect to pass, the Abitur
- Taken ACT (including Writing)
- Taken SAT (SAT Essay not required)
3. Have ONE of the following English language proficiency requirements:
- TOEFL iBT® (including Paper Edition) with 90 or above
- IELTS (Academic Module) (including computer version of IELTS) with band 7.0 or above
- Have selected English as Language A and obtained or expect to obtain the IB Diploma

Students in the Global Business Program (GBP), part of the Faculty of Business Administration, will have the chance to interact with students from different backgrounds and cultures through activities, courses, and projects that will grow their understanding of both global business management, and Japanese style of management as well as the Japanese spirit of craftsmanship.
Graduates of the GBP have gone on to start careers at prestigious Japanese companies like Japan Airlines Co., Ltd., Panasonic Corporation, Bank of Japan, Nippon Television Network Corporation, and more.

The Sustainability Co-creation Programme offers hands-on learning through on-site field workshops in Japan, research, and service activities, teaching students solution-oriented skills. By exploring local and global perspectives, students gain a deep understanding of environmental, economic, and social issues, that will help develop their careers and contribute to a sustainable future.
In 2024, SCOPE students attended a 4-day field study opportunity in Miyagi where they learned about building resilience in communities affected by natural disasters, cultural heritage conservation, and the revitalization of rural Japan through sustainable tourism.

The Institute for Global Economics and Social Sciences (IGESS) offers an exciting curriculum focused on Global Economy, Global Business, and Business Communications, all taught in English. IGESS prepares students to contribute to a sustainable future and develop them into globally-minded experts in economics and social sciences.
Subjects are varied and range from Economics, Business, and Sustainability Studies to Kendo and Strength Training. Students spend the first three semesters at the Ichigaya campus for general education courses, including Japanese language courses. For the next five semesters, students take specialized courses at the Tama campus.
