Golden Week, även kallad “Gyllene Veckan” är en rad närliggande helgdagar i Japan. Dessa dagar de mest efterlängtade och även högst trafikerade helgdagarna på hela året. I jämförelse med Sverige får japanska arbetare vanligtvis inte alls lika många betalda semesterdagar och väldigt få arbetare väljer att, eller kan inte, ta ut dem.
Av den anledningen vill många göra det bästa av de fyra helgdagarna under Golden Week och använder dem för att resa eller besöka sin familj på landsbygden. Många affärer är även stängda under dessa dagar.

Showa-dagen
昭和の日, Showa no Hi, äger rum den 29 april och markerar starten för Golden Week. Detta är födelsedagen för den forna kejsaren Showa, eller kejsare Hirohito. Han styrde landet mellan 1926 till 1989 och ses som en kontroversiell ledare, på grund av allt Japan gick igenom under denna period.
Showa-dagen används för att tänka tillbaka på Showa-eran och för att minnas allt det japanska folket gick igenom under den perioden, samt för att uppmuntra enighet och fred.
Konstitutionsdagen
憲法記念日, Kenpō Kinenbi, inträffar den 3 maj. 1947 var detta dagen då Japans efterkrigskonstitution trädde i kraft.
Precis som Showa-dagen så är Japans konstitutionsdag en påminnelse om Japans förflutna. Innan denna konstitution trädde i kraft var Japan i färd med att utvidga sitt imperium. Det orsakade inte bara död och massiva skador hos grannländerna, Japan skadades också kraftigt av detta.
När Japan gav upp efter atombombningarna i Hiroshima och Nagasaki skrevs landets konstitution om för att betona fred och pacifism.
Under denna dag publicerar många tidningar artiklar om den japanska regeringen. Japansk parlamentsbyggnad i Tokyo, där konstitutionen skrevs, är också öppen för allmänheten denna dag.
Grönskans dag
緑の日, Midori no Hi, firas den 4 maj. En dag ämnad för att hedra den naturliga miljön. Dagen upprättades av den förra kejsaren Showa som älskade natur och växter. Förut brukade denna dag firas den 29 april på den förra kejsarens födelsedag, men nu firas den alltså 4 maj.
Folk brukar fira dagen genom att spendera tid i en parker eller ute i naturen.
Barnens dag
子供の日, Kodomo no Hi, firas den 5 maj och markerar slutet på Golden Week.
Denna dag kallas även för 端午の節句, Tango no Sekku, eller pojkarnas festival. Dagen firades traditionellt av familjer för att be om hälsa och framtida framgång för sina söner.
Eftersom det även finns en flickornas festival (Hinamatsuri). har Barnens dag kommit att bli en dag där lycka och hälsa för alla barn firas.
Om du är i Japan kommer du få se färgglada karpar, även kallade koinobori, som hängs upp överallt för att fira. Vanligtvis brukar de svarta representerar pappa medan de röda eller rosa representerar mamma och andra färgerna och storlekarna representerar familjens barn.
Varför kallas det Golden Week?
Det finns olika teorier varför denna vecka beskrivs som “gyllene”. Den dominerande teorin är att namnet kom från filmindustrin.
I början av maj 1951 släpptes en film av bolaget Daiei med namn “Jiyuu no Gakkou” (Frihetsskolan). Filmen fick framgång och drog in mycket pengar så veckan denna film släpptes blev känd som “golden week”, i den meningen att filmen var en kassa succé.
Som denna artikel påpekar använder inte tv-program eller tidningar nödvändigtvis termen “Golden Week”. Istället kallar de denna vecka för 大型連休, oogatarenkyuu, som betyder “lång helg”.
Notera att om en nationell högtid infaller på en söndag, så firas högtiden vanligtvis den följande dagen. Den enda nationella högtiden denna regel inte gäller på är för Nyårsafton.
Som du kanske märker varierar dagarna som Golden Week firas på i Japan där vissa använder denna tid för att blicka tillbaka på Japans förflutna medan andra använder helgdagarna för att fira.
