Preparation course for higher education

This course aims to help students enter university, graduate school, or vocational school. On top of entry exam preparation and Japanese language skills, students can elect classes to improve other academic skills such as math and chemistry. The course also focuses on building students' communication skills for the classroom and life after they finish language school.

JLPT prep elective classes
Students are organized into classes based on prior knowledge of Chinese characters and existing Japanese language level. In class, students familiarize themselves with the structure of the exam, how to solve the exam questions, and how to achieve high scores. A mock exam will be conducted using an app developed by the school.

Higher education prep elective class
Students choose classes based on which school they want to go to. There are college preparatory classes for those who wish to apply for university, while there are JLPT preparatory classes for those who want to go to vocational college. Students prepare for exams through solving problem exercises and completing mock exams, learning how to write an essay, and how to complete their applications to the highest possible standard.

Conversation class
On top of learning essential Japanese language skills, students continue to build their communication skills in conversation class. From January to March, students in the Mid-Senior level or higher also take "Discussion" and "Speech" classes.

Business class
Japanese for business use (conducted from January to March at Upper Intermediate level and above)

Japanese culture class
Getting to know Japanese culture (conducted from January to March at the Upper Intermediate level and above)

Japanese movie analysis class
Translation class where students translate dramas and films into Japanese (held at the Upper Intermediate level and above during the January-March period)

Term breakdown

BEGINNER
Students develop essential Japanese language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a class that suits their level. Through learning grammar, vocabulary, and practising speaking and writing students will build the language and communication skills necessary for living and studying in Japan.

INTERMEDIATE
Students will develop their reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills in a balanced manner, and acquire the knowledge and operational skills necessary for university and graduate school entrance exams. Along with the Comprehensive Japanese Language Class, students can choose an elective class. In the elective classes, students can choose the class that best suits their study objectives from university entrance, graduate school entrance, and JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) preparation.

ADVANCED
The goal for the advanced lessons is to acquire a higher level of Japanese language skills and to be able to participate in classes with Japanese students after entering university or graduate school. Students will be able to read textbook-level readings for university and graduate school and summarize the contents and express their own opinions.

Conversation class
There are various classes, such as “talking about your hobbies”, “introducing your own country,” “the cultural difference between Japan and your own country,” “talking about the news,” and “students bringing in themes to exchange ideas,” and the content varies depending on the level.

Business class
In the “Business Japanese Class”, which is an elective class, students can intensively learn the Japanese necessary for job hunting. This includes how to write a resume and learning Japanese corporate culture through case studies. Students will be able to acquire the Japanese language skills they need to successfully find employment.

Japanese culture class
There are classes in which groups and individuals research, compile, and present Japanese culture and custom topics (for example; maneki-neko, Japanese confectionery etc). Students can learn a lot about Japan by researching and presenting topics about Japan.

Term breakdown

BEGINNER
Students build a strong foundation in Japanese language skills through learning basic words, grammar, and expressions. Once they pass this level, students will have the basic Japanese language skills to live in Japan. This includes navigating daily life, interacting with others, talking about hobbies, what they do in their spare time, and more.

INTERMEDIATE
Students will be able to understand Japanese culture and other topics through reading and listening. They will be able to speak and write opinions in simple Japanese. Students at this level can take elective classes such as JLPT N3 or N2 preparation, or business Japanese.

ADVANCED
Students at the advanced level will be able to write on specialized and more abstract topics, as well as discuss and create presentations in Japanese. Students at this level have the Japanese skills to pass JLPT N1.
