Sendagaya Japanese Institute was established in 1975 and has two campuses: Sendagaya Japanese College in Takadanobaba and Sendagaya Language School in Komagome. Each campus concentrates on a specific long-term goal for its students, split between either an academic focus or a business one.

Sendagaya Japanese College in Takadanobaba offers a university preparatory course that teaches students how to write essays and pass exams at the highest possible standard. They have helped more than 600 students be accepted into Japanese universities, graduate schools, and vocational schools.

Meanwhile, Sendagaya Language School in Komagome offers Japanese language education designed around working in a Japanese company. Students will learn business customs, corporate culture, and receive support on handling job interviews.

Across both campuses, the Sendagaya Japanese Institute has helped more than 25,000 graduates master Japanese and achieve their goals in Japan. The school provides multilingual support for international students, as well as guidance and support in their daily life, studies, and job search in Japan.

Academic Japanese Course

This course aims to help students enter university, graduate school, or vocational school. On top of entry exam preparation and Japanese language skills, students can elect classes to improve other academic skills such as math and chemistry. The course also focuses on building students' communication skills for the classroom and life after they finish language school.

JLPT prep elective classes
Students are organized into classes based on prior knowledge of Chinese characters and existing Japanese language level. In class, students familiarize themselves with the structure of the exam, how to solve the exam questions, and how to achieve high scores. A mock exam will be conducted using an app developed by the school.

Higher education prep elective class
Students choose classes based on the higher education institution they want to attend. There are college preparatory classes for those who wish to apply for university, as well as JLPT preparatory classes for those who want to go to a vocational college. Students prepare for exams through solving practice problems, completing mock exams, learning how to write essays, and learning how to complete their applications to the highest possible standard.

Conversation class
Every level includes mandatory conversation classes. In the beginner and intermediate levels, practice is centered on role-playing various situations. In the pre-advanced level, the goal is to be able to interact with Japanese people in university or graduate school classes, so students will develop skills in discussion and presentations. They will also get to practice speaking freely.

Japanese culture class
These classes help students get to know Japanese culture and are conducted from January to March from the Upper Intermediate levels.

This school is of Medium-High Intensity which means that they teach material at a very efficient pace. In general, you can expect to study daily for about 2 hours outside of class, depending on your level. Term breakdown

BEGINNER
Students develop essential Japanese language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a class that suits their level. Through learning grammar, vocabulary, and practicing speaking and writing, students will build the language and communication skills necessary for living and studying in Japan.

INTERMEDIATE
Students will develop their reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills in a balanced manner, and acquire the knowledge and operational skills necessary for university and graduate school entrance exams. Along with the Comprehensive Japanese Language classes, students can choose elective classes. With these elective classes, students can choose the class that best suits their study goals, such as going to university, graduate school, or passing the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).

ADVANCED
The goal for the advanced lessons is to acquire a higher level of Japanese language skills and to be able to participate in classes with Japanese students after entering university or graduate school. Students will be able to read textbook-level readings for university and graduate school and summarize the contents and express their own opinions.

Business Japanese Course

Sendagaya Language School offers Japanese language education specifically designed for those who plan to work in a Japanese company, either in Japan or abroad. While improving Japanese communication skills is essential for employment, students can also learn about Japanese business customs and corporate culture in classes that specialize in Business Japanese.

The school also offers an employment support system that includes holding job seminars, individual interviews, resume interview guidance, and more.

JLPT prep elective classes
Passing the Japanese Language Proficiency Test is an important step in finding a job in Japan, so students at the intermediate level and above are able to take the JLPT preparation class. Students will practice questions from N1 to N3 levels and listen to explanations of key points.

Conversation class
There are various classes, such as “talking about your hobbies”, “introducing your own country,” “the cultural difference between Japan and your own country,” “talking about the news,” and “students bringing in themes to exchange ideas,” and the content varies depending on the level.

Business class
In the Business Japanese Class, students can learn about Japanese corporate culture, business customs, and business manners. Students can acquire the Japanese language skills necessary to work in Japan, such as Japanese honorific expressions.

Japanese culture class
These classes allow students to experience Japanese culture through different activities, such as painting wind chimes, indigo dyeing, and calligraphy. These activities are held about once every six months.

COURSE DETAILS

Term breakdown

BEGINNER
Students will be able to use simple words and grammatical expressions to communicate in everyday situations such as daily life and at work. Basic kanji and kanji vocabulary will also be studied.

INTERMEDIATE
Students will be able to communicate with people in the workplace in Japanese and present simple opinions. From this level, specialized classes in Business Japanese and preparations for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N2 to N3 levels) will start.

ADVANCED
Students will be able to listen, read, and understand Japanese regarding social topics and their field of expertise. Students will also be able to discuss and give presentations on social topics and take classes to prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N1 level).
