Che cos’è il Japan Rail Pass?
Il Japan Rail Pass, o JR Pass, è una sorta di abbonamento dei treni della compagnia ferroviaria JR che viaggiano in tutto il Giappone e che solo i turisti stranieri possono acquistare. Ciò significa che gli studenti con visto studentesco o con visto vacanza-lavoro non posso acquistarlo.
I pass sono disponibili per 7, 14 e 21 giorni.
Se intendi comprare il Japan Rail Pass ce ne sono di diversi tipi, a seconda della durata o delle regioni da visitare. In generale, si può viaggiare illimitatamente su tutti i treni della compagnia JR. Dove comprare il Japan Rail Pass?
Il metodo più veloce ed economico per comprare il Japan Rail Pass è farlo prima del tuo arrivo in Giappone. Potrai acquistarlo direttamente online dal sito Jrailpass.com.
Una volta acquistato il pass online riceverai un voucher “Exchange order” che sarà fondamentale per ritirare il JR Rail pass all’ufficio di competenza della JR in Giappone. Ci sono uffici JR sia negli aeroporti internazionali che nelle stazioni principali di tutto il Giappone.

Ma conviene comprare il Japan Rail Pass?
Il valore del Japan Rail Pass dipende dal programma di viaggio che hai in mente. Non è affatto economico se decidi di restare, ad esempio, solo in una città o dintorni. È conveniente, invece, se viaggerai tra più città. Ecco alcuni esempi.
Il costo del Japan Rail Pass per 7 giorni consecutivi è di ¥50,000 (316 euro) secondo il listino prezzi di ottobre 2023. Un biglietto del treno shinkansen da Tokyo a Osaka solo andata costa circa ¥14,500 (91 euro) per posti riservati.
Puoi anche prendere treni locali, molti dei quali sono gestiti dalla JR e quindi il pass è valido. Inoltre, siccome Kyoto è molto vicina a Osaka e facilmente accessibile tramite linea JR, vale la pena farci un salto se visiterai Kyoto.
Non dimenticare che i giorni divalidità del JR Pass sono consecutivi e fai attenzione alla data da cui farlo partire. Scegliendo quello da sette giorni potrai usarlo fino a mezzanotte del settimo giorno e non oltre.
Altri modi per viaggiare in Giappone
Parliamoci chiaro, lo shinkasen è uno dei mezzi di trasporto più cari per viaggiare tra una città e l’altra in Giappone. È anche, però, il metodo più comodo e veloce, sebbene ci siano delle alternative per risparmiare soldi.
La rete di autobus è un’alternativa economica ai treni. Un viaggio di sola andata da Tokyo a Osaka può variare, ma in genere costa in media tra 4000 e 6500 yen (25-41 euro). Ci impiega otto ore, quindi lo consigliamo se non hai problemi di tempo e vuoi risparmiare.
Tra i siti dove acquistare i biglietti ci sono Willer e kousokubus.net. Se prenderai un autobus gestito dalla JR allora sarà coperto dal tuo Japan Rail Pass.
