Although you could technically obtain a <a href=\"https:\/\/gogonihon.com\/en\/studying-abroad-in-japan\/how-to-apply-for-a-japan-student-visa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">student visa<\/a>, your accommodation options are extremely limited as a minor and almost no language schools accept students under the age of 18.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, if you\u2019re under 18 and you want to study Japanese in Japan, then the best thing you have on your side is time. To be able to work in Japan as a foreigner, you will need a high level of Japanese language skills and a minimum of a bachelor&#8217;s<\/span> degree (or 5-10 years of work experience in a particular\/specialized<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> field).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have neither language fluency nor a university degree, then you will need to set aside <strong>at least 5 years of study in Japan<\/strong> before you can start looking for full-time work here. You will need to consider the <strong>application timeline<\/strong>, which usually begins about <strong>12 to 6 months before your intended study term<\/strong>. Do you want to live in a big city like Tokyo, or would you like more of a small town experience by living somewhere like K\u014dfu? Watch Japanese <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gogonihon.com\/en\/blog\/how-to-learn-japanese-through-netflix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">movies or TV shows<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, follow Japanese language <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gogonihon.com\/en\/blog\/learn-japanese-with-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TikTok<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> accounts, or listen to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gogonihon.com\/en\/blog\/guide-to-jpop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">J-Pop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to supplement your learning.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We advise anyone who is interested in learning Japanese to learn at least the basic writing systems, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gogonihon.com\/en\/blog\/japanese-characters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hiragana and katakana<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, before arriving in Japan to start school. Even though you will also cover this in your <strong>150-hour language requirement<\/strong>, it is a great place to start when learning the foundations of Japanese.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Similarly, learning Japanese phrases for customer service interactions, travel, and especially for bureaucratic interactions will help you immensely in day-to-day life when you arrive.
