The sakura<\/em>, or cherry blossom forecast for this year has already started to roll in. The Japan Meteorological Corporation releases its forecast each year around January to give an indication of when it thinks the flowers will bloom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s cherry blossom forecast in Japan\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cherry blossoms typically bloom at different times depending on where they are located. Naturally, trees in colder parts of the country like Hokkaido will bloom later. However, overall, you can expect to see cherry blossoms around mid-to-late March and early April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that the cherry blossom forecast can change depending on weather patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to celebrate cherry blossoms in Japan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The usual way to experience cherry blossom season in Japan is to have a picnic with friends<\/strong>. In Japanese, this is called hanami<\/em>, and it is serious business in Japan. Often groups will gather with a large plastic tarp at a park and eat and drink the day away. The most serious hanami fans may even camp out overnight to save the best spot at their favorite park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t need to go to those extremes to get a decent spot, though. Just show up early and bring plenty to eat and drink!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seasonal food and drink<\/strong>s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Even before the cherry blossom forecast is created, Starbucks is usually one of the first to announce seasonal cherry blossom-themed drinks and merchandise each year. But if you wander around, you will probably notice a lot of sakura-themed treats at cafes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweets manufacturers always use this time of year to put out limited edition versions<\/strong> of popular items. Drinks manufacturers Asahi and Suntory also release seasonal beer and alcoholic pre-mix drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
