What is a visa sponsor for Japan and why do you need one?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To complete your student visa<\/a> application, you need a sponsor for financial reasons. This person ensures that you have adequate money to live and study in Japan<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For full-time work<\/strong>, your visa sponsor for Japan would usually<\/em> be the company that you\u2019re employed by. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a student visa<\/strong>, you have two options: self-sponsor, or have someone else sponsor you, preferably a close family member.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For <\/span>self-sponsorship<\/b> to study in Japan, you typically need to meet the following three conditions.<\/span> Self-sponsors should have been working full time for the past two years, without large gaps of unemployment and your annual income should be at least 2 million yen (the higher the better).<\/span> As well as show a bank statement balance<\/strong> equivalent to at least 1.2 million yen for 6 months of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have <\/span>someone else sponsoring your visa<\/b>, similar to self-sponsorship, that person typically should meet the above three requirements. You may also be requested to submit additional documents, such as a birth certificate<\/span>. If your visa sponsor for Japan is retired, you will need to provide their retirement date and pension statements which should be at least 2 million yen<\/span><\/span> annually.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does the sponsor have to do?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Aside from providing money, a student visa<\/strong> sponsor will also need to provide documents to prove their financial viability. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Included in your student visa application should be a tax return document that shows the sponsor\u2019s personal income. Some schools also ask for a payslip or income tax document that states the sponsor\u2019s current company so they can confirm their employment details.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
